Connectivity
Through
Bluetooth technology, consumers can connect wirelessly to Bluetooth-compatible
accessories within a 10 meter (30 feet) range.
Several protocols are supported for a wide variety of peripherals including
Headset Profile (HSP) to connect with popular Bluetooth headsets for wireless
communication, Handsfree Profile (HFP) to access handsfree car kits, Dial-Up
Networking (DUN) Profile to let users connect laptops to go online, and
Object Push Profile (OPP) to send data between devices and exchange business
cards.
Conclusion
As the second ultra-thin device, the Sanyo Katana joins the equally fashionable
Samsung A900 in Sprint's product portfolio. Offering an equally sleek and
sexy profile, the Katana bundles essential features and functions into a
slim profile to target a different demographic.
As many devices are moving towards more multimedia-intense applications,
megapixel cameras and MP3 players are becoming commonplace among mobile
devices. And compared with the A900, the Katana's VGA camera is sub par,
while its audio capabilities are virtually nonexistent. Without 3G connectivity
the Katana is unable to harness Sprint's Power Vision services.
But what the Katana lacks in features, it makes up in functionality.
Sanyo has a reputation for excellent reception, and the Katana is no different.
Providing dual-band analog and digital frequencies, calls come in loud and
clear provided the internal antenna built into the lower lip is unobstructed.
The application set is fundamental at best, but BREW allows users to add
and remove mobile applications, and the integration of various email and
chat applications ensures consumers will never be far from sending a greeting.
For consumers looking for multimedia on the go, the Samsung A900 may
be a better option. However for consumers who want an aesthetically appealing
device but don't need all the extras (and extra fees), the Sanyo Katana
is an affordable alternative with the looks of a much more expensive device.
