Sendo X Review - Audio, Messaging, Entertainment and Internet

Audio

The audio capabilities are impressive. The Sendo X has the ability to play MP3 files using the proprietary SoniX sound dual port speaker. It also can support up to 64 voice polyphonic ringtones. AMR, WAV and Real Audio allows you to record your own voice.

RealOne Player is also included in the package for streaming media. The camera captures of up to 30 fps which places the phone in the elite league. Additionally, Real Video (Versions 7 and 8) and MPEG4 in 3GP format are also supported.

Messaging

SMS and MMS are used extensively to exchange pictures, jokes and important messages. Due to good button placement, typing continuously does not strain the wrist.

It supports a wide variety of MIME types for OTA (Over-The-Air) transfers. The maximum MMS size is 100 KB each way. It also supports a variety of image formats such as JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP and WBMP.

Up to a humongous 6 email accounts can be configured. All the major protocols are supported: POP3, IMAP4, SSL and SMTP. Additionally, PC synchronization is possible using the Sendo PC connect software.

Entertainment

Sendo X AngleThis phone also includes some customizable themes which allow the user to change the look and feel of the menus. It is to be seen whether this feature can rival the excellent themes offered by Sony Ericsson in their phones.

The phone also comes with two pre-installed games: Sendo Pinball and Funny Farmer. While most of us are familiar with pinball, Funny Farmer is much more interesting. Players must develop their farm and try to eventually become a Master Farmer. More games can be installed as long as they are compatible with Series 60 platforms. Countless games are already developed due to the popularity of the Nokia standard. The phone has many other useful applications such as Notepad, Calculator, Converter, a basic Clock and voice control.

Internet

Browsing the web on the built-in WAP 2.0 browser is decent. The Sendo X renders pages in HTML format including CSS (Cascading Style Sheets).

The browser also delivers enhanced user experience as a result of its Small Screen Rendering (SSR) technology. SSR reformats web content to fit the Sendo X screen. However, we have a few doubts about this technology. Since this might mean that a part of the formatting might be lost during the reconversion process. Addressing this issue, Sendo officials have said that this feature can be disabled by the users if required.

SSL 3 technology is available for extra security. The phone also has an extensive Digital Rights Management (DRM) scheme to protect virtually every MIME type. Additionally, the Sendo X supports OTA specifications (Version 7.0) as well as the Nokia Smart Messaging System Version 3.0.
