The T630 has standard SMS, and MMS functionality - virtually the same
as the T610. Both text messages and MMS can send and receive messages with
pictures, sound, and animations. A nice feature of the text messages is
also the ability to send long text messages which are essentially concatenated
short text messages of up to 160 characters each. The only drawback is that
you're still charged for each individual message included.
E-mail functionality is also included as it is with most phones these
days. The T630 supports both POP3 and IMAP4. If users aren't comfortable
with manually entering the settings, they can go to the Sony Ericsson website
via the WAP browser for help and support. There is also an e-mail configuration
tool to setup the service.
There is a chat feature available through the "My Friends" menu option.
From here you can talk one-on-one with people you're text messaging with
as well as join group chat rooms. The result is a system for sharing personal
information about the user's status, (e.g., on-line, off-line, busy), location
(home, work), and the moods of their friends and colleagues (happy, angry).
In addition, services will allow users to participate in private or public
chat rooms with search capabilities. Ultimately network operators will be
able to provide meeting and conferencing type of services with shared content.
