Messaging
Options for messaging on the W760a include text messaging, instant messaging
and push email so users are notified immediately when they receive new mail.
The keypad is flat to accommodate the slide design and it can be difficult
to type on the highest row since it sits right below the phone's face, but
it helps that the keys are very large. The W760a supports instant messaging
from Yahoo! Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger and Windows Live Messenger.
Text messages sent from the W760a can include pictures, sound effects,
animations and melodies and to get started, users can select Menu, messaging,
write new and messaging. Another option is voice messaging, which allows
users to send and receive recorded audio messages. This can be accessed
through Menu, messaging, write new and voice message.
Entertainment
The
design of the W760a focuses on multimedia, which is easily accessible on
the model from AT&T with an attractive and functional interface and a catchall
"Entertainment" icon with games and music in one place. Other design details
tailored towards users looking for a phone they can have fun with include
the accelerator that allows users to navigate by tilting the phone and A/B
buttons intended to create a more typical gaming control.
With the tilt control accelerometer in the W760a, users can tilt the
phone forwards to accelerate, backwards to slow down, and left or right
to move those directions in the game. The W760a from AT&T comes with five
games, at least on a trial basis: I-Play Bowling, Ms. Pac Man, Need for
Speed Pro Street, Turbo Jet Ski and Wheel of Fortune. The bowling game showcases
the accelerometer, which works when users hold the phone in one hand and
go through the motions of the sport.
Entertainment also includes, as mentioned above, FM radio with track
identification; GPS and navigation support and a built-in RSS Reader that
also works in standby mode, so users can update podcasts or headlines. Users
can personalize functions and features on the W760a, and even create new
applications, since the phone's Java Platform 8 supports many new Java programming
features.
AT&T's MEdia Net brings local weather, news, sports scores and information
about movies, among other things, right to the W760a with one touch of the
AT&T logo button to the lower left of the navigation key. The W760a from
AT&T also allows users to shop for music online, although one possible downside
to the W760a is that some users have reported they cannot use downloaded
music for ringtones.
