Internet
High-speed
Internet is another attractive aspect of the W760a, which is the first global
Walkman phone with tri-band HSDPA. The phone supports AT&T's 3G network,
so users in the U.S. can take advantage of this feature and enjoy high speeds
for streaming videos, downloading music and surfing the Internet.
HSDPA-capable phones can take advantage of AT&T Music and Video services,
providing optimal transfer rates of 3.6 Mbps downloads and 384 kbps uploads
- significantly faster than prior generation EDGE networks.
Storage
The W760a comes with 40 MB of storage, which puts it above other Sony
Ericsson phones currently on the market. This can be expanded with a Memory
Stick Micro card, which is sold separately, and unlike many other phones,
the memory card slot on the W760a is easily accessible underneath a tab
on top of the phone. Many other handsets hide the memory card slot behind
the battery, so the phone has to be turned off and opened up to reach insert
or remove the card.
Connectivity
There are many options to connect the W760a to other devices, including
a simple USB cable which can be used to synchronize or transfer files between
the phone and a computer, and also to send photos directly to a printer.
The W760a supports Bluetooth version 2.0, including A2DP (Advanced Audio
Distribution Profile) to listen to stereo music wirelessly with A2DP-compatible
accessories such as a headset. Other Bluetooth profiles supported by the
W760a include Handsfree Profile (HFP) to use with handsfree car kits and
Headset Profile (HSP) to pair wireless headsets, and all three of these
profiles work with many other Sony Ericsson phones currently on the market.
With the W760a's Media Transfer Protocol, users can connect with a computer
with Windows XP or Windows Vista via USB cable and synchronize playlists
and transfer medial files. Also, through a USB cable connection users can
easily drag and drop files from folders on one device to another.
Conclusion
It is rare to find a phone without at least one or two major design problems,
so the W760a was a pleasant surprise. Aside from mild inconveniences such
as the flat keypad, this phone brings together a multitude of functions
in a compact, sleek and simple design that feels like a worthy investment.
The excellent photo quality is also a perk and the sharp, colorful screen
brings media to life. Music and games are easily accessible and spiced up
with the shake control and accelerometer functions, yet Sony Ericsson has
also thought of everything from a basic alarm clock to a password saver.
Attention to detail and solid performance in the key areas of music, gaming,
camera and design make the W760a a functional and fun phone.
