Sony Ericsson W810i Review - Messaging / Entertainment

Messaging

Through common protocols, users can send text messages through SMS (Short Messaging Service), format attributes such as style, size, alignment, and paragraphs with EMS (Enhanced Messaging Service), and attach photos, voice clips, and videos using MMS (Multimedia Message Service).

Cingular customers will have access to preinstalled AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), ICQ, and Yahoo! Messenger chat clients. Providing real-time chat from the W810i, consumers can keep in touch with friends and family just as if they were sitting in front of a PC.

International variants of the W810i will have Wireless Village instead, an instant messaging program that merges the PhoneBook and messaging functionalities. Predefining open connections with existing IM providers, consumers can use the W810i to communicate with AOL, ICQ, Yahoo!, and MSN clients.

Entertainment

Sony Ericsson W810i Music HeadphonesThe W810i comes bundled with a plethora of essential applications such as Alarm Clock, Business Card Exchange, Calculator, Calendar, Code Memo, Contacts, Email (POP3 / IMAP4 with attachment support), Notes, Picture Editor, Sound Recorder, Speakerphone, Stopwatch, Tasks, and Timer. Additionally, MusicDJ, PhotoDJ, and VideoDJ allow users to perform basic editing on music, photo, and video clips.

Games can be downloaded and installed through J2ME (Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition), the most popular mobile phone application platform. Supported by numerous leading vendors, applications and games in a wide variety of genres are already available to choose from.

But the W810i also supports the Mascot Capsule Java 3D gaming engine. Rendering real-time objects, the W810i integrates advanced APIs for more detailed graphics during gameplay over existing J2ME games.

Unfortunately one thing missing on the W810i from the W600i is the ability to play games horizontally (as if holding a controller).
