Audio
Audiophiles are sure to be pleased with the Z600. The most prominent
feature is the Music DJ which allows users to create their own ringtones
by mixing various pre-defined sounds included in the package and changing
the volume and the tempo.
Another good feature is the sound recorder. This feature was also present
in the T310 and the T610, but was of no practical use. The Z600 allows users
to record reasonably loud ringtones. This feature emulates the brilliant
sound recording capabilities of the Siemens C55. With 32 bit polyphony,
listening to midis are fun.
The only disappointment is the exclusion of support for MP3 files which
would have surely made the Z600 a much more popular phone.
Messaging
The
text messaging subsystem is now much more responsive, and a great Sony
Ericsson phone for all SMS junkies. However, the inability to request SMS
receipt confirmations is a glaring omission in Z600s' running outdated
firmware. Hence users should upgrade their phone to the latest firmware.
The rest of the features remain the same as in the T610.
The Sony Ericsson MMS Editor in the phone coupled with the MMS Creator,
which is installable on the PC, create the best possible environment for
creating and editing multimedia messages. The email subsystem is top notch
and offers detailed options to the user for configuring email accounts and
retrieving information in the way that the user wants.
Entertainment
The Z600 supports J2ME (Mobile Java) as well as the Mophun platform,
thus giving users the best of both worlds in downloadable game platforms.
Colorbug and Erix are the two J2ME based games included. While entertaining
at first, get boring when it comes to keeping users pre-occupied for a longer
time. More action packed games are the four based on the Mophun platform.
AlienScum is very similar to Atari's classic Space Invaders game. HoneyCave2
a horizontal scrolling Super Mario Bros. type game. And Minigolf, well that
should be self explanatory. However, it's the all new racing game, VRally2,
which is sure to keep users playing all day. The graphics look stunning
and this can be attributed to the large 16 bit color display. VRally2 becomes
all the more interesting once the optional Sony Ericsson Gamepad is attached
to the phone which then enables console style gaming. All except VRally2
are the same ones found in the T310 and T610.
Another important feature that was missing in previous Sony Ericsson
phones is the ability to delete pre-installed games and other stuff. All
these features have made the Z600 a must have phone for gaming addicts.
The
loud ringtones and neat images also add to the already brilliant
entertainment value of the Z600. The great customizability of themes are
the same as in other SE phones like the T610 and T310. Users can create
themes using third party software and then easily upload them to the phone.
The Z600 has some extra features that should keep users interested. The
profiles system is pretty good and like in previous Sony Ericsson phones,
it allows users to ringtone volume, enable / disable vibrating alert, change
message alert and key sounds. As well as change other features like answering
mode and text size.
The PIM (Personal Information Manager is exceptional as well. The calendar
offers a daily, weekly and monthly views. Users can easily insert reminders,
appointments and notes. Other common features included are a timer, calculator,
stopwatch, a notepad for creating notes and a nice program known as Code
Memo. This program allows users to store sensitive information like passwords.
The Z600 also features an extensive phone usage tracking system. It can track
the total call time, number of SMS's sent as well as the total data transferred
during GPRS sessions.
