The new rating system developed and supported by LG, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung Electronics and Sony Ericsson, ranges from five stars for the most efficient chargers down to zero stars for the ones consuming the most energy.

The measure is a response by the cell phoen industry to heavy criticism from environmentalists. The industry has become the world's top consumer electronics business by volume.

Chargers continue to use electricity if left plugged into the socket, even if the phone is disconnected. Around two-thirds of the electricity used by cell phones are wasted this way.

"If the more than three billion people owning mobile devices today switched to a four- or five-star charger, this could save the same amount of energy each year as produced by two medium sized power plants," Nokia said in a statement.

The world's top four charger makers include Flextronics, China's BYD Co, Emerson Group and Finnish Salcomp.

T-Mobile introduced Web2go, a browsing experience designed to work across its portfolio of phones. Web2go simplifies navigating the web on mobile devices, providing better browsing, improved search with Yahoo oneSearch, a customizable home page and a easier shopping and downloading.

T-Mobile customers can create a personalized home page for one-click access to websites. They can visit virtually the entire Internet from their mobile phone, ensuring webpages are easy to view and navigate.

Yahoo started serving T-Mobile in 10 European countries this year, sharing ad search revenue.

Yahoo will reach 105 million U.S. subscribers between its deal with T-Mobile and one with AT&T.

It captures high-resolution images on its 5.0-megapixel camera. Pressing a dedicated camera key quickly auto-focuses, activates an LED flash, and if necessary, stabilizes the image and reduces red eye. Automatic color saturation delivers whiter whites and crisper blacks.

An MP3 player with USB 2.0 provides high-speed data downloads on a PC. Wi-Fi connectivity makes browsing the Internet or sharing photos, audio or video files easy. An integrated FM radio with RDS can help listeners "name that tune" while on the road.

With CrystalTalk technology, conversations are amplified and background noises reduced for a noticeable difference in clarity. A second microphone further enhances audio quality by eliminating ambient background noise from calls.

FastScroll one-touch navigation wheel lets users quickly navigate through menus.

"The VE66 delivers on consumer's demand for more personalized listening and imaging experiences on a mobile phone," said Tracey Koziol, Corporate Vice President of Motorola.

The Motorola VE66 is expected to be available Q4 2008.

AT&T today launched the LG Incite, a Windows Mobile device with a modern design.

The Incite has a sophisticated, sleek design, a crystal-clear 3.0-inch touch screen and a 3.0-megapixel camera. Running on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, the Incite has Microsoft Office Mobile, Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 and Windows Media Player 10.

Consumers can navigate through the menu using their fingers, the scroll button to the upper right of the screen, or the included stylus. A configurable, drag-and-drop favorites menu accesses favorite applications.

Users can text message using an on-screen virtual keyboards - a full, QWERTY keyboard in landscape mode or a 20-key keyboard in portrait view. Haptic keys provide vibration feedback.

Users can access business and personal email through Microsoft Direct Push and AT&T's Xpress Mail service.

Bluetooth 2.0 lets users wirelessly listen to music via stereo headsets, transmit data to other Bluetooth-enabled devices and make handsfree calls. It also has domestic and international 3G capabilities and Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g).

AT&T Mobile Music service lets users download music from eMusic, storing songs on microSD memory cards up to 16GB. The Incite features AT&T Video Share for live video over wireless devices while participating in a voice call.

It comes pre-loaded with AT&T Navigator, powered by TeleNav, for turn-by-turn voice and on-screen directions with 3D moving maps. AT&T Navigator also features traffic alerts, re-routing and other location-based services.

The LG Incite is available now in stores and online for $199.99 with a new two-year agreement and mail-in rebate.

The Renown comes with a 2.0-megapixel camera with NightShot, a camcorder, and video, picture, text and mobile IM messaging options. It also supports Verizon Wireless' VCAST Music with Rhapsody and VCAST Video services in the U.S. VCAST Music with Rhapsody lets users transform their handheld into an MP3 player.

Customers to access more than 5 million songs and purchase full songs over-the-air. They can download a master copy of songs to their PCs, and sync favorite tracks, albums and playlists from their PCs to their phones via USB cable.

With VCAST Video, users can download or stream video clips from news, sports and entertainment.

AT&T today launched the Samsung Eternity, a touch-screen phone with a full-touch QWERTY keypad and support for AT&T Mobile TV.

The Eternity features a black and chrome exterior with a large 3.2-inch touch screen with haptic support, providing subtle vibrations that confirm selections.

Samsung's TouchWiz user interface has specially designed widgets to customize the phone. A quick and simple "drag and drop" feature lets users instantly access their favorite functions, such as the clock, music player, instant messaging, photos and AT&T Mobile TV all from the home screen.

Three dedicated keys on the lower portion make navigation straightforward. It has a built-in accelerometer to automatically detect motion and the orientation to auto-rotation of the display for motion sensing games and photo scrolling.

The Eternity includes a 3.0-megapixel camera with video capture, Video Share calling, advanced messaging capabilities, including Mobile Email and instant messaging (Yahoo!, Windows Live, AOL), Bluetooth technology and a microSD memory card slot supporting up to 8GB.

AT&T Mobile TV provides streaming television content and sporting events from programs such as CBS Mobile, CNBC, Comedy Central, ESPN Mobile TV, FOX News, FOX Mobile, NBC 2Go, MSNBC, MTV, Nickelodeon, CNN Mobile and PIX.

Its browser can surf the Internet, navigate pages with the touch of a finger and support easy zoom-in and zoom-out capabilities.

Verizon Wireless will launch the BlackBerry Storm on Nov. 21 for $200 with a two-year contract.

The BlackBerry Storm is the first touch screen BlackBerry with the world's first "clickable" touch screen. It also supports multi-touches, taps, slides and other touch screen gestures to easily highlight, scroll, pan and zoom.

The BlackBerry Storm's integrated accelerometer automatically switch between landscape and portrait modes. Users can navigate websites with the touch screen interface, double tapping to zoom in and sliding a fingers to scroll and pan. The browser has built-in RSS support, so new content can be automatically pushed to users.

AT&T today launched the Nokia 6650, a stylish clamshell featuring Symbian-based S60 platform.

Designed with premium materials and customizable illumination, the 6650 features a sharp 2.2-inch display with QVGA (16 million colors) resolution.

It has external audio playback keys, external soft keys and a 1.36-inch display that captures photos, controls music and changes profile settings without ever having to open the device. A built-in 2.0-megapixel camera has an integrated flash to snap high-quality images even in low-light conditions.

Running on AT&T's 3G network, customers share live video while participating in calls via AT&T Video Share, or listen and download music from Napster, eMusic or XM Radio.

Nokia today announced the Nokia E63, a QWERTY keyboard messaging phone designed for business users.

The E63 can switch modes with the press of a button, from viewing corporate mail, appointments and intranet data, to viewing pictures, personal email and shortcuts to favorite websites.

Consumers can record and view photos and videos with the 2.0-megapixel CMOS camera and bright 320 x 240 px landscape display, listen to music downloaded from the Nokia Music Store via a 3.5 mm audio jack, or customize the handset through the thousands of applications available for download.

Files on Ovi lets users remotely access files from their PC, even when their computer is offline.

"Our research shows that people want a device that deals with both their personal and professional lives, but helps them to separate the two," said Soren Petersen, Senior Vice President of Nokia. "The Nokia E63 is a new proposition for Eseries - a messaging device where people will be just as involved in their social network as they are in their business network."

The Nokia E63 will be available in ruby red or ultramarine blue. It is expected to begin shipping in the coming weeks for an estimated retail price of $250.

AT&T today launched the HTC Fuze, a Windows Mobile smartphone with a QWERTY keyboard and TouchFLO 3D touch screen user interface.

Powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, the Fuze is a compact, powerful smartphone with a smooth gloss black finish and unique faceted backplate. It features a sharp, 262K-color 2.8-inch (480 x 640 px) VGA touch screen. A full QWERTY keyboard slides out from the side.

TouchFLO 3D is designed for one-hand operation using gesture-based navigation. Customers simply touch, hold and slide along the screen tabs. A quick slide on the home screen activates the most used features such as email, text messaging, music player and camera. The "zoom in, zoom out" feature accesses the Internet via Opera browser for desktop-like webpage rendering.

AT&T customers can choose from popular platforms to access their corporate email. Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional offers integration with Microsoft Outlook information such as email, contacts, calendar and to-do lists.

Users can access and edit email attachments using mobile versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, OneNote and PowerPoint.

A unique business card application lets users capture and save contact information with the built-in 3.2-megapixel camera.

Users can access AT&T Mobile Music, an integrated, on-the-go music service. Customers can browse music with accessible tabs sorted by playing lists, artists, albums, songs and genre views.

CV (Cellular Video) accesses thousands of video clips - news, sports, weather, entertainment, premium HBO Mobile content and more - via streaming video.

Verizon Wireless today announced global plans for the BlackBerry Storm, a smartphone with the first 'clickable' touch-screen.

The Global Value Plan offers discounted roaming charges on calls made to and from 130 countries for just $4.99 a month.

Customers can use GlobalEmail for corporate email attachments and POP3 email accounts. Verizon Wireless' unlimited GlobalEmail Plan covers web browsing, picture messaging and Visual Voice Mail in the U.S. and overseas for $69.99 monthly access for a stand-alone data plan and $64.99 monthly access when added to any voice plan.

The BlackBerry Storm can roam in South America and Japan, also provides 3G data speeds on select international networks. It comes pre-installed with a SIM card, so customers who travel abroad can activate global service.

Nokia 1202 and Nokia 1661

The Nokia 1202 and 1661 offer value and quality. At only $35, the Nokia 1202 is its lowest cost mobile device to date. Developed specifically for people in rural areas, the 1202 includes standard features like a flashlight, extended battery life, loud ringtones and a phone book for up to five users.

The Nokia 1661 is its lowest cost color phone including an FM radio and a large color screen. The 1661 also supports flashlight, loud ringtones and multiple phonebooks.

The Nokia 1202 is expected to begin shipping in the fourth quarter of 2008. The Nokia 1661 is expected to begin shipping in the first quarter of 2009 with an estimated retail price of $40.

Mail on Ovi creates email accounts directly on the mobile phone without having to use a personal computer. A trial of Mail on Ovi will launch in a few select markets by the end of November 2008. The global rollout of Mail on Ovi will be available on all currently shipping Nokia Series 40 devices by the end of 2008.

Nokia Life Tools is a range of agriculture information and education services designed for rural communities in emerging markets. Nokia Life Tools provides farmers and students with timely and relevant information. SMS is used to deliver the critical information to ensure that this service works wherever a mobile phone does. Nokia plans to launch the service in the first half of 2009 with the Nokia 2323 Classic and the Nokia 2330 Classic as the lead devices in India, and expand it across select countries in Asia and Africa later in 2009.

Sanyo Katana Eclipse X More Photos - View Specs

Sprint today launched the Sanyo Katana Eclipse X, combining One Click user interface with the style of the Katana series.

The Katana Eclipse X is enhanced with One Click, letting users access features most used. One Click lets users personalize their home screen and organize features such as text messaging, Google search, Sprint Navigation, email, favorite Web sites, music and call log.

One Click can access Google or add shortcuts to websites on the home screen.

Scrolling its customizable carousel-style menu provides information. For example, when users with text messaging on the home screen scrolls to that feature, the number of new messages appears.

The Katana Eclipse X includes Sprint TV with live and on-demand programming, Sprint Music Store with full-length songs, Sprint Radio with more than 150 channels and a built-in MP3 player with microSD card slot supporting up to 8GB (256 MB card included).

Sprint Navigation offers audio and visual turn-by-turn driving directions. Sprint Mobile Email accesses POP3 email, including AOL, Yahoo, Windows Live and Gmail as well as corporate email.

Additional features include a built-in speakerphone, stereo Bluetooth technology, external music navigation controls and a 1.3-megapixel camera with 12x zoom and video camcorder. It also has a high-quality speakerphone, Wireless Backup to manage contact lists in the event that the phone is lost, stolen or damaged and Restrict and Lock to allow the user to set limits on when and how the device is used.

The Sanyo Katana Eclipse X is available in Sprint retail channels and online for $99.99 with a two-year contract and $50 mail-in rebate. There are two color options - Nightlife Black and Hypnotic Pink.

Nokia today launched the N96 in the U.S, a flagship smartphone with a 5.0-megapixel camera and Carl Zeiss optics, turn-by-turn voice navigation, 16GB of internal memory, N-Gage gaming and a large 2.8-inch display.

With a 5.0-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, the N96 captures high-quality videos at 30 frames per second. It stores up to 40 hours of video in common formats such as MPEG-4, Windows Media Video and Flash Video.

A vivid 2.8-inch display, built-in 3D stereo speakers. and 'kickstand' on the back cover let users sit back and watch.

The N96 is compatible with high-speed 3G HSDPA networks in the US (850 and 1900 MHz). Integrated geotagging lets users mark the location of new images. Navigation includes maps with urban detail as well as satellite views.

RIM BlackBerry Bold (9000) More Photos - View Specs

AT&T today launched the BlackBerry Bold, Research in Motion's latest smartphone with global 3G, built-in aGPS, Wi-Fi and AT&T applications.

The BlackBerry Bold features a black exterior, satin chrome-finished frame and a stylish, leatherette backplate with a half-VGA (480 x 320 px at 217 ppi) color display. A newly designed full QWERTY keyboard offers fast and easy typing.

On the inside, a new 624 megahertz (MHz) mobile processor provides improved performance. It comes with 1GB of on-board memory and up to 16GB via a microSD/SDHC expansion slot.

Multimedia capabilities include an advanced media player for music, videos and photos and a 2.0-megapixel camera with built-in flash, zoom and video recording, as well as an optimized Web-browsing experience with desktop-style depiction.

The Bold works with BlackBerry Internet Service, giving users push-based access to as many as 10 supported work or personal email accounts.

The Bold comes pre-loaded with AT&T Navigator, CV (Cellular Video), YellowPages.com Mobile and AT&T Mobile Music service with XM Radio Mobile and MusicID. AT&T provides content via its MEdia Mall, a shop for applications, ringtones, games and graphics.

Microsoft hopes its Windows Mobile operating system can continue to challenge Symbian, a platform backed by Nokia and used in two-thirds of smartphones.

Blackberry-maker Research in Motion and Apple's iPhone are also growing threats. Several manufacturers are planning or have started to roll out smartphones based on Google's Android software.

Both LG and Samsung are members of the Symbian Foundation and are also developing models based on Android.
