Motorola RAZR V3 (Black)

Reviewer: weedeater on Fri Feb 02, 2007

I've had this phone for a year and a half.

I've been pretty satisfied with it up to now. But there are better camera phones out there now. That is, the camera pretty much sucks.

I've had some issues with it not notifying me of pending voicemails and messages, but that could well be my setup.

I've used it successfully with Bluetooth headsets as well as hands-free car systems.

I agree that it is a grease-magnet for the screen. No stopping that.

I use a case which may be why I don't have problems with dust/dirt/sawdust or whatever getting to it over time. I would suggest one to anybody who wants to avoid lint and cushion the thing in case of dropping on the floor.

Lately the battery has been not charging very well. Others have reported this as an issue. I suppose it has to do with the thin/small battery.

Motorola RAZR V3 (Black)

Reviewer: Compdude on Thu Jun 01, 2006

I absolutely love this phone. Slim, but not so small it is hard to hold onto. I bought the phone from Cingular, it was locked and only had 5MB of memory. Thanks to this forum, I now have 9.6MB of free memory and an unlocked phone. Plus funlights and clublights icon_wink.gif .

Pros:
Exceptionally long battery life
Big screen inside
Screen outside
camera (actually halfway decent)
Pretty sturdy
AWESOME reception! For the folks with bad reception, go with a new 64K sim card (32k doesn't work well)

Cons:
Grease magnet
Stock menu is crummy (monsterpack fixes this)
Raised sections of keypad come in contact with screen and leave marks*

*I fixed this with a razor, shaved the raised bits off the Razr keypad icon_lol.gif

RAZR V3 - keypad

Reviewer: holykemp on Fri Feb 10, 2006

I've had the RAZR for about 5 months and loved it. The reception was always great and the battery power, while many have complained about it, is actually pretty acceptable, giving 3-4 days without having to recharge with normal talking time. My keypad also just broke. All the buttons, except the power button, completely stopped working. I had been out in the rain and thought it just needed to dry out. When that didn't work, I called motorola and the motorola woman on the phone said that there is a white dot, the diameter of a straw, behind the battery on the phone. If there was any water damage, it would have changed colors to pink or blue. Since it was still white, they just sent me another phone. I've read about this happening to a lot of people and am now worried it will happen again right after the 1 year warranty is up. I'm considering selling it for a cheaper, but better made phone with hopefully the same great reception I got with the RAZR.

Moto Black Razr

Reviewer: MRyan01 on Thu Jan 19, 2006

I got this phone for Christmas I love it. The phone has been reliable and always keeps even a better signal than my Moto V551 (which wasn't bad). I enjoy making my own ringtones and the slimness of the phone. I can hide it in my pocket at work and managment can't see it when they want to look to see if we are following the no cell phone policy. I enjoy the durability of the phone dropped twice but nothing has happenned to it. Overall I love this phone I will wait for the V3i or V3x to come out and renew around next Christmas when I can renew.

Been through 2

Reviewer: rstowe on Fri Jan 13, 2006

I've had two of the black razrs. The first one had a defective screen, and the screen would flip upside down and turn backwards. Cingular replaced it as a manufacturer's defect... Fine. So i received a second razr in the mail, and after a couple of months, i had it in my pocket while i was outside at a bonfire one cold midwest night, and the phones buttons malfunctioned. Now, the power button s the only key that works, and the rest merely turn up the volume. i thought it must be the cold, so i told cingular what happened and they said that extreme cold (30 degrees farenheit) is not covered. I read some other forums in which others had the same problem. Supposedly, it may be a humidity issue, in which the phone thinks its closed all the time. Either way, after 2 razrs, i'm buying a Sony.

Motorola RAZR V3 (Black)

Reviewer: christina_r on Thu Apr 06, 2006

I bought this phone, and yes it was lovely and looked stunning icon_biggrin.gif . It had awful signal, wherever I went, I had to waste about 4 minutes for it to reach signal, and my old phone was a lot quicker icon_frown.gif . I also had to continuously keep cleaning the keypad and screen as they became dirty very quickly.
As I have never dropped the phone, I can’t say I found anything wrong with its strength.
I think this phone is mainly aimed for people who would like to impress rather to use it, for phoning people. Oh, and a little safety tip, mine has been stolen, icon_sad.gif so if you decide to buy this phone, just like every other phone, keep it safe.
Overall it was a good phone, and I would advise for people to buy this phone, but only for the right money, bearing the good and bad points to this phone.

Motorola RAZR V3 (Black)

Reviewer: ccd2005740 on Tue May 23, 2006

My V3 Black is one of the best phones ive had. At first i was a bit dissatisfied with it. then i discovered this site. I must say moderator samsung is VERY useful and i owe him alot of credit. I have more than DOUBLED my memory space and enabled video recording on my phone!Ive dropped the phone a few times before, no damage but the sides do lose there paintwork quickly. Also sawdust managed to get in my camera (???). it has a long battery life but one disadvantage is that because the rubber numbers on the keypad stick out the screen has a big picture of an upside down "5" on it. Overall 9/10

Motorola RAZR V3 (Black)

Reviewer: mikeearle on Tue Jul 11, 2006

i'm a sales rep for an Australian telco, if i have any customers that aer looking at a V3 i try to get them to look at something different, Motorola in Australia, i'm sure they have their heart in the right place, but this handset is just plain crap. My gueass i get about 50% of the handset i sell back either under the manufacturers return authority or repair warranty. this is the same for silver, black and pink (as these are the ones we have through our service provider).
the problem is not localised either it'll range from lcd problems, software issues, memoory etc. it's just frustrating sometimes, especially when you have a total idiot of a consumer yelling at you for a refund.
i do recognise some are good and when they do work they are pretty good. but for the tim being i will continue to leave it out of my sales pitch.

OK so I have had the Black Razr for alittle more then a month. I think it is an awesome phone! -Phone book is awesome
-Voice dialing is fun! better
then speed dial
-Awesome backgrounds
-Really good speaker phone
-Good sound quality on headset
-It takes alot to scratch the phone

Cons:
-SMUDGE MAGNET! icon_wacko.gif
-The camera is ok when
u take a picture you have
to hold the phone steady icon_cry.gif
-There are like 3 ringtones!
-I wish I got the blue icon_twisted.gif

All in all i rate the phone 9/10!

Great Phone!!

Reviewer: jazzykristi on Thu Dec 21, 2006

I've owned a MOTO RAZR for a year. I had no problems with this phone. I absolutely loved it. It was great for what I used it for (which was everything). The only thing I did not use on the phone was the Bluetooth. I recently dropped it on a hard floor and it suffered some minor scratches but came through the drop very well. I used it several days after. About two days ago it started freaking out. It would start making noised without me touchching it. It would light up and change volume on its own when it was closed and sitting on my desk. And then finally, it got to the point where the only thing that I could do was turn the phone off because if I pushed any of the other buttons it would only adjust the volume. I couldn't check my messages or anything. Maybe it was because I dropped the phone but it was working fine after it was dropped. I don't really know if that is the reason why or not so now I am without my razr. But I will tell you, until it started acting crazy and freaking out it was the best phone I have ever had. I am strongly thinking about getting another one instead of trying something different.

If anybody happens to know if there is a more in depth reason as to why only the power button worked please let me know.

Black Moto Razor

Reviewer: michaelbb on Sat Mar 04, 2006

Well I have had mine for two weeks and I love it, although mine is unlocked and unbranded and I am on cingulars network, which is cool and I have good service, and NO contract since I bought one phone from eBay and the razor from Celluar Concepts in FL, so far so good after a years warranty if I cannot extend it well I will deal with it than, I take care of my STUFF, Electronics, Computers Cell Phones and the such . Came from a V551, and will still use it from time to time.

I really think Moto did RIGHT with the Razor line. I am contemplating buying another and just leaving it as a back up.

V3 Razr (Black)

Reviewer: JDunc on Wed Jan 11, 2006

Great phone. I love everything about it and it is the best phone available right now for Cingular if you want a flip phone. Enough memory for ringtones rather small or 30 seconds long and Pictures and Videos. I will probaby get the V3i or V3x when it comes available to Cingular so I can get another Razr.

Do not recommend

Reviewer: jondavid2500 on Sun Mar 26, 2006

I had this phone replaced 6 times from two different batches of phones. Every phone I received went to a white loading reboot screen, calls would drop, the external screen would flash white whenever the phone was just sitting there. All six phones did this.
I switched over to the LG CE500 and have had no problems with it.

Razr
Pros - nice looks
Battery life

Cons
Menu looks cheap (software)
Loses calls
No missed calls section in recent calls folder
Shuts off and on with a white screen
External screen problems
Keypad feels cheap

Would not recommend this phone to anyone. Dont take just my word, 4/5 reviews are bad.

Motorola Razr V3xx Black

Reviewer: devarion on Thu Sep 20, 2007

This phone is nice looking but poorly designed. I've had this one since March of 2007.

First of all - some of the menus in the interface are designed. Well - counter intuitively! For example, one menu will have the select button on the lower right corner while the next will have it in the lower left. So if you try to just quickly go through the menus using the two keys in the upper corners with the dots thinking left is "next" and right is "back" it doesn't work. I know it's rather confusing but if you ask a sales associate to let you play with the phone for a moment you'll see what I mean.

Secondly, the battery life is very bad. I'll admit I use the phone as my primary contact and charge it often - however if you plan to use the camera or any of the other nifty functions in this phone don't expect to see your battery last longer than 8 hours. In fact, the longer you own and use the phone the shorter the battery life gets! As of right now I can use it for about 2 days and about 20 minutes of talk time and the battery will be dead. I have not read through the original specs but I'd be surprised if you could get 5 hours of talk time out of it right out of the box.

Some good points this phone does have are:
-Audio for calls, recording (camera), and music is excellent
-Camera is superior as long as you use the zoom and take still shots (the zoom pixelates the picture badly and any movement causes a great deal of blur, but it's much better than the old camera phones!)
-Gets pretty good reception even while in basements, malls, or other large buildings (Better than my old LG anyway)

As a final note - I experienced the very same problem with the keyboard completely failing to function as mentioned in the post "Been through 2." Only my phone was just in my pocket, indoors, at work with me when it happened. I can receive calls and turn the phone on and off now - that's it. As the other forum user rstowe explains "Supposedly, it may be a humidity issue, in which the phone thinks its closed all the time." Would probably hit the nail on the head - I live in Michigan and it's quickly becoming fall here. So if you live in areas with high humidity and/or large temperature differences I would not buy this phone. It does not appear to hold up well to climate changes.
