software problems are from verizon
Reviewer: purplegenes on Tue Jan 13, 2009
add this to my earlier review ... A Verizon employee informed me that the features in the phone that are supposed to be available (ie features designed and created by Motorola) are deliberately "flash blocked" (???) by Verizon. He advised this is common practice for Verizon to do with Motorola phone software (not sure why) for the first 1 or 2 quarters the phone is on the market. This sure sounds like either protectionism or paranoia ... or both ... if there is a better explanation I would love to hear it.

Hardware OK, software needs better / more honest support
Reviewer: purplegenes on Mon Jan 12, 2009
I got this phone late last year and in general I like it but the fact is that while the hardware seems ok (with the exception of the really flimsy connector covers) the software does not work as described.
The user's manual says you can download your pics to your computer with a simple USB cable but that is not true. Some folks say they can do this using various odd softwares but there apparently is no official software from Motorola or Verizon yet (per the Verizon reps I have spoken with).
The user's manual also says you can charge your phone from a computer USB port (a feature I value because it is more convenient than carrying around a second charger) but that is also not exactly true. I have attempted to plug my phone into various computers with mixed results. Some computers cause the phone to display "Unauthorized Charger", some computers cause the phone to look like it is charging (the power bars max out) but when you remove the cable it has not added any juice to the battery, and other computers it seems to charge ok on.
Seems to me that either someone at Motorola released this phone prematurely or else someone at Verizon deliberately messed with the software and botched up the promised features that are documented in the user manual.
