Nokia 7205 (Intrigue)

Reviewer: Costanza on Sat Mar 28, 2009

Glossy black finish and chrome accents and hinge make for a sleek, professional look. Thin and compact without feeling cheap. Hinge feels solid as well. If you're into fashion phones, this is one you'll want to look at. The black finish does act as a haven for fingerprints and smudges.

Hidden external display is nice, but it displays in a vertical orientation that some people may not like. You can see the time, battery power, CallerID, and reception with this display. You can also control your music and scroll through missed calls using the touch controls.

Beautiful, large internal display. Colors were very bright and text was sharp.

Cross-like directional pad is easy to use but may not be for everyone. The pink version of this phone uses a flower petal design instead of the cross. Occasionally, I hit the center OK key when I went to hit a direction button and vice versa, but it's not a huge problem.

Keypad has adequate separation between keys and bright backlighting. Dedicated camera and speaker buttons are present as well. The keypad also has a nice gradient effect. The top of the keypad is black but as you go down it fades into a gray color. You can see this gradient effect more on the pink model.

Unfortunately, the menu interface on this phone is the typical Verizon layout but Nokia has added a new feature called Habitat. It is a nature-based skin that assigns animal icons to your missed calls, contacts, etc. I haven't really used it much, but it's a welcome change to Verizon's boring menus.

The phone comes with a generous selection of wallpapers, themes, and ring tones. My only gripe is that they included some really beautiful nature wallpapers, but posted an ugly logo and the URL to WWF's website on all of them.

It includes a 2MP camera with a flash. It's nice for taking candid shots, but don't expect anything spectacular.

CNET really slammed this phone for audio quality, but mine seems OK. Callers sound normal and the ring tones sound clear and not garbled. This is a music phone but of course it does not come with a 3.5mm headset jack, but rather a 2.5mm. I can't understand why most of these "music" phones don't include a 3.5mm jack! Haven't we been using them since the 80s?

If you've been waiting for Verizon to come out with a good Nokia phone, I would get this one. It's far better than the Dark Knight one or the Mirage. Hope you found this review helpful!
