Great Phone - If You Don't Like Customization
Reviewer: maconda99 on Fri Dec 08, 2006
OK, I will admit I jumped into this one a little too quickly. It's a great phone/palm combination, but just not quite "trendy" enough.
They introduced the unlocked version in four colors - nice move.
They gave it a great shape and design - nice move.
They kept the great software and screen - nice move.
However,
NO MP3 ringtones without bending over backwards, even then it crashes often because of it. Short battery life minimizes effectiveness - 2 hours of phoneing and organizing - dead. Backgrounds only apply to the phone program - which is just that - a program. Your call may not be dropped by the network, but the program can quit for itself.
I'm mostly against this phone because it has no MP3 ringtone capability. I am a customization freak, and this is like a stab to the heart . It is - in fact - the only reason I am returning it.
For business users who need a PDA and Phone in one, this is a great device. For those who have come out of the dark ages of MIDI and WAV, this isn't quite as "hip and trendy" as they advertised. It still amazes me, I can edit a word document, e-mail it to Taiwan, check my schedule and weather, but I can't use MP3's a ringtones - whaaaa? :

MP3 Ringtones now available on Treo 680
Reviewer: JeffHerr on Tue Jan 08, 2008
Quick note:
The Treo 680 can now use MP3's once loading the new firmware update. It seems an easy process; refer to Jeppedy's blog posting on blogspot for details.

Basically, just EMail the song to yourself, then pick it up on the Palm device!
