Totally Recommended... <Live on the edge of Technology>
Reviewer: umair_latif on Wed Mar 01, 2006
I bought my Treo700W three weeks ago. I have never posted any review about any product in my life, the only reason which forced me to post this review about Treo700 was too many unnecessary negative reviews from non-techy people. Yes! if you are not even a little bit technical and you are only a push button kind of person then Treo700 is not for you. But if you like to live on the edge of ever changing technology then this evolutionary product will fulfill your dreams. Its been three weeks and I am still exploring new and creative features hidden in this device. This smartphone is capable of doing more than what is published or advertised, thanks to Windows Mobile 5.0 ... There are endless opportunities and features. Go Explore !!! The device is very stable ... impressive battery life and breathtaking broadband connection. If you are a software developer like me than ..... wooo ... its a world full of adventure to develop your apps for windows mobile 5.0 ... Many have complained about the Internet Explorer not opening all of the websites .... come on this is not your PowerFul PC with IE6.0 this is simply a smart phone with latest IE microsoft had to offer, which could not run flash and ActiveX stuff but you should be glad that it can store your cookies. It also install fonts of different languages ... Go explore there is more to it!!!
Comparing it with other Windows based smart phone, Yes there are few out there with higher processor speed and few extra apps and features. But I like this one because of its compact and ergonomic design. The most interesting benefit is that you can use this device and all its functions with a thumb as compare to others where you have to firmly grasp and hold it with both hands and it makes it more hard when you are on the go. You wont feel alot of difference in speed when comparing with other devices mainly because the current applications dont require that much high speed processing. But later may be private apps or games may require a faster processor ... but still Windows Mobile operating system is far better the PALM OS (for push button people). You get applications like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint which can ease your office work. It can be directly synched with MS Outlook either from PC or exchange server.
Talking about Exchange Servers there is a cool feature in Treo700 povided and supported by Verizon Wireless called 'WIRELESS SYNCH' ... which can wirelessly synch your smart phone with your corporate exchange server or other device. This is a feature which I still have to explore ... so you see even I haven't totally figured the secrets of Treo700 yet.
The bottom line Go Explore!!! I havent experienced any major technical issue with this device other than a very typical Windows issue which every one in the world know that once in a blue moon it freezes.

Palm Treo 700w
Reviewer: umair_latif on Mon Jul 31, 2006
After so many months of using 700W I write again!
Previously I wrote a very optimistic review about 700W on this website but now I am taking back my words and would like to apologize to all who bought Treo 700W based on my previous review.
In short: Very unreliable device, hangs in the middle of the day without any reason and you may lose your calls, the applications closes erronously by themselves. Very poor customer support, from both Verizon and Palm, specially for this device as the help desk are clueless and after five minutes of talking they will start talking jebrish.
In Details: I am very disappointed by Treo 700W. The Windows Mobile 5.0 is not 100% stable on this device as it is on other handhelds and smartphones. I believe the 312MHz processor is not enough to do the job as compare to others who are using much powerful processors. Its like an amatuer experiment that Palm did to inetgrate Windows on its devices and I don't know which Mr. BIG BOSS clever executive thought it will be good idea to bring it to production. Not only that the IE (internet explorer) on this device is completely unstable, it will crash 100 times before you are done using it for the day. The third party pocket pc applications you install will totally kill your Treo 700W. Palm tried its best by releasing one and only patch, which actually is not a patch but I would say a complete overhaul of the operating system, but that patch didn't bring any charm to it either.
Now comes the customer support. First of all Verizon has a very under-trained and unexperienced customer support. Trust me they don't know what they are doing. One person, who think he is little smarter than others, writes standard answers and rest of the whole customer service people just keep on reading those answers to all of your different questions. The only time you will find them friendly is before you sign any contract.
My Advice: I will still say there is no other Handheld better in the market than the Windows based handhelds, whether they are pocketpc or smartphones. I still predict that pretty soon in near future Windows based smartphones will dominate the market. Try to get a 500MHz or higher processor smartphone.
