Released for AT&T, the Samsung Impression is the nation's first commercially available AMOLED (active-matrix organic light-emitting diode) screen for a brightest and clearest display. The slim handset features a 3.2-inch metallic blue touch screen with a slide-out four-row QWERTY keyboard. Consumers can use one-touch shortcuts for texting and vibration response to touch. It provides onboard mobile instant messaging with AOL and AIM, Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger. An integrated 3.0-megapixel digital camera has digital zoom and multi-shot and can share live or recorded video during a call. Bluetooth wireless technology supports headsets and handsfree devices, streaming music, dial-up networking and file transfers. The Impression offers AT&T's popular services, such as AT&T Navigator for turn-by-turn voice directions and maps with fast traffic re-routing, AT&T Mobile Music for over-the-air music downloads and CV for streaming video clips.

Samsung Impression

Reviewer: mgoblue on Tue Apr 28, 2009

Pros:
- Nice screen
- Large keyboard
- 3MP camera
- Solid design

Cons:
- Spring-loaded slide too "springy"
- Haptic feedback annoying
- Pricey for a device with no Wi-Fi

The Impression is one of AT&T's new "quick messaging" line-up. The phone has some solid weight to it but the spring-loaded slide mechanism sometimes works a bit "too well" and often slides open when trying to unlock the phone your thumb.

It has the same Samsung's TouchWiz UI as the Eternity, but with some new customizable widgets on the main screen.

The screen is bright. Its wide viewing angle is good for movies even in direct sunlight. The phone has haptic feedback so you get a vibration when you press the screen, but it's kind of annoying. Good thing you can set it down a few notches.

Music through the speaker wasn't bad. Reception was clear.

Overall pretty good phone, but not as many features as some other phones at the same price.
