I bought this phone hoping Wi-Fi access would solve my issue of bad TMobile GSM reception at home, but it did not! The TMobile GSM tower signal is extremely weak (0-1 bar signal) at my place. I bought this phone for the Wi-Fi connection, so I could use my wireless router at home. That phone was really bad quality and dropped calls continously.
The phone detected and connected all right to my home wireless network, but would drop calls continously nonetheless. The T-339 User's Guide states "when connected to a Wi-Fi network, the phone will still scan regularly for GSM towers and will choose between the two networks (Wi-Fi or GSM) the one offering the strongest signal". Do not believe one word of the manual!
In reality, when connected to a strong Wi-Fi network, the T-339 would scan, about every 5 minutes, find the TMobile GSM tower with the very weak signal, and jump anyway to the GSM network, which irremediably dropped the call. I had to call back a friend 11 times one evening so we could finish our conversation.
I called TMobile who were useless. Here is the long list of what they suggested which never work:
buy our TMobile @Home router - don't use your perfectly fine own router;
make the @Home Wi-Fi network as the priority one;
enable quick AP connection;
turn off your phone at least once a day (ha! if a phone works there is no need to turn it off, believe me!);
reset your phone so you lose all info;
bounce the wireless router;
put your wi-fi network on channel 11, not channel 6 or any other if you want it to work;
and tons of other attempts in trying to fix the phone dropping calls.
I then called Samsung which proved even more useless. I tried to explain that the User's Guide was stating "the phone will choose the network with the strongest signal" when obviously it was jumping from a Wi-Fi signal of 4 bars to a GSM with 0-1 bar and losing the connection. That there was a problem with the phone firmware. Nothing! Samsun useful repartee was to contact TMobile to get a new firmware. When I suggested that Samsung had to write a new firmware for TMobile to be able to provide a new one, Samsung rep ignored me. Hey! I work with computers as an IT programming specialist in Communications. What do I know?
T-339 was also freaking hot in my hand and most people were complaining that the voice sound was terrible. I had trouble hearing people, and they complained that my voice sounded muffled.
So I told TMobile I wanted to trade my brand new T-339, which of course they denied me. I had to buy another one. I settled for the Blackberry Curve which has the option of deliberately ignoring GSM towers so I could make sure the Blackberry would always stick to my Wi-Fi network (no need for TMobile @Home router by the way!)
To summarize it all, the T-339 is the crappiest phone I've had by far. Warning to all that are considering getting that phone. Do not! Buy anything else than Samsung, and especially that horrible phone.

Poor Wi-Fi connections, phone overheats and shutsdown

We tried multiple SGH-T339 phones and discovered the same overheating problem and poor wi-fi connections within 20 feet of the router, immediately after purchase.
Tmobile support of this phone is also poor. In addition we needed to pay to get this "free" phone and pay to get the phone exchanged. Not exactly customer service of a poorly made device.
I definately would not recommend this phone or Tmobile as a provider.
